Dogs! Kids standing on his back! Hamilton is the perfect boy for it all! Watch and see!
Day 16 I let Hamilton be a horse out on pasture all day. I watched him interact with the other horses and he still arches his back and prances away. I did hear a little kicking going on with another young gelding around his age. But wasn’t able to see it. He’s started to slowly get closer to the rest of them while grazing, but not too close. He enjoys taking off from the back of the pasture and running into the barn to show his attitude, but then takes off back out. A day off from work was good for him!
Day 17 was the first day Hamilton didn’t paw while waiting on his grain to come in the morning. Normally he’d be banging on his stall, but I’ve been working with him on stall manners and it was the first day he waited patiently! Bad stall manners is one of the things that bothers me most from horses, so it was a big accomplishment in my book! I took him out on a trail ride and did a little more trotting. This boy can really stretch out his long trot when you ask him! I used the German martingale and it helped him be more collected and will be something I use continually on him until he understands 100% of what I want from him.
In the evening, we played around with liberty, lunging, and laying down with the dog! If you remember back a few videos, Hamilton had a hard time loping while lunging and drug me around the circle with him, you’ll notice he’s gotten a lot better with that! I have been working with him and the dog (Nike) on laying down and being okay with each other. He’s doing great and will now let her lay on him! It’s kinda cute if you ask me Cute dog/horse pictures might be coming Hamilton is doing really well at not getting up until he’s asked and I’m really happy with that!
