Hamilton Day 12 and 13

Writer's picture: Elizabeth BeckElizabeth Beck

Got sheep? Once again, Hamilton won’t mind. In fact, he’ll help move them when you need! Check the video to see!

These past two days have been the absolute best days with Hamilton. Day 12 was an intense riding day for Hamilton. Because I knew he needed to work on collection and not reacting, I chose to use a German martingale on him. He did phenomenal with this. He didn’t throw any fits with it being different. The only thing he did on day 12 was sit down. Yes... he sat down. Like a dog. In the beginning of the ridding session he was scared of the sheep, so I had him back up and he casually sat down. It wasn’t out of frustration or anything, it was in slow motion and he didn’t do it to harm or anything. I’m honestly not sure how it happened, but it didn’t feel like he tripped or lost footing. It was super slow and caring? That might be a weird way to describe it, but it was very odd. But hey! You learn something new everyday! ;) (Or experience) But by the end of the riding session he was moving the sheep like a pro! We put them back into their pasture and he did awesome! We worked on collection and leg yielding, something that will take time, but he is doing great!

Day 13, Hamilton and I took a long trail ride around the farm by himself. He did absolutely awesome and only spooked at a fox and her baby who ran all over in the brush along the railroad track. And even at that, it wasn’t an uncontrollable spook. He was super calm and quiet. I thought for sure he’d be talkative because he was by himself but he didn’t say a peep! He did change his walking speed at times but after he realized I wanted it a calm, smooth walk he understood and listened. Towards the evening I lunged him, did a little liberty work with him, as well as asked him to lay down. He threw a little bit of a fuss while lunging but after he understood he was good about it. I hadn’t asked him to lay down for 2 days and he tested a little bit but then accepted and laid. He has done absolutely phenomenal the past two days, and let me tell you, whoever gets this boy is gonna get a steal! He’s turning into one nice gelding!

Pm me if you want to know how to apply to be accepted to buy him in the middle of August!
